James 4:14

Tuesday September 29th 2009
We saw a patient today in her 40s who had had a stroke while at work. 40 years old!! The stroke had rid her of her ability to speak. Her husband and I talked as I was booking their next appointments about how be fore her stroke she had talked about getting new insurance. The stroke happened and the husband who was unsure of their medical insurance situation was having to deal with this tragic event and the money questions of the hospitals and dr's, all while his wife watched but was unable to communicate it to him. He finally traced the payments that had been made from her checking account to the company and found out she had taken care of it and had insurance. Poor guy... She stood quietly along his very helpful and pleasant side as he told the story looking grateful and trapped in her head.
Thinking back on it, it's funny how life is... She lost her ability to communicate but wasn't communicating the important things before anyways. That may seen harsh but why didn't he know about the insurance purchase, He knew she was going to do it but not that she did. When I was married Eric and I told each other everything (well I say that........apparently not.) even stuff we didn't have to or need to.
Life is crazy and you only live once so "say what you need to say"(John Meyer)

You are a mist that is seen for a moment and then disappears. ~James 4:14

Witness to Success

A sign of relief and pride as I heard his name called, then his chair move as he stood to be recongnized. "Floyd James III" I am glad I got to witness his success this Tuesday as he was sworn in to the Oklahoma Bar Association. This man has never ceased to amaze me with his wit and determination. It is woven in his skin to succeed whether he knows it or not. His family swooned around him after the ceremony, his father still firm smirked a sense of achievement that was not easily recognized. Congratulations Trey!!!! Your mother would be proud!!

Me, Mommy, Michelle

The early morning alarm clock came too soon. Another 4 a.m. Wednesday morning of babysitting, work, and school. I tend to have more things to do than I do time. I packed our clothes, my hair dryer, straight iron, toothbrush, and deodorant nearly in the dark again never missing a beat. Hoping that my son, Tony, would bounce out of bed, I hollered his name. I do this every morning hoping that he will one day just get up and get himself ready with no groaning or moaning. Who am I kidding? Your never to young to start that. After telling him about 4 times he is finally ready and headed to the couch to fall back asleep. Fine by me, he is ready and closer to the door. Next, is my baby girl, Carlee. She is starting to wake up from the movement in the house but not interested in opening her eyes. A quick diaper change will do for now until I dress her for daycare.

Down to the car I walk with Carlee in one arm. Purse, bag with our clothes, and Carlee’s diaper bag on the other arm and my keys to top off my fingers. Slowly Tony trails down the stairs with his heavy feet pounding on the stairs. I always have to remind him that we do have people that live below us. We only have to go about half a block to my friend house to baby sit and the kids are usually back to sleep in 5 minutes. But not me, my day has started and usually doesn’t end until about 1 a.m.

When Doug has returned from 2 hour fitness boot camp that he instructs we are merely wisps of wind walking past each other. Tony is walking to the bus stop to school and Carlee and I are loading in the car again on our way to daycare and work. Carlee seems easy to deal with in comparison to Tony because she can’t quite talk back yet. After both the kids are where they need to be I feel like I can breathe again. The stress and exhaustion it takes to get myself to work after getting them ready makes me feel crazy sometimes.

My adult time, what work is for me, is somewhat a relief as crazy as it sounds. My work resembles my life, unexpected and ever-changing. I got to work today and was told to go to a different location. I am a float receptionist for Oklahoma Cardiovascular Associates, so I float to locations all over the state to cover for people who are calling in or need vacation days. Sounds crazy, I know, but I really enjoy it. Work is over around 4:30 or 5:00 p.m. them to school. I enrolled in 12 hours this semester to add to the chaos. Graduating from college has always been a dream of mine. I will persevere.
